Namastey London

Namastey London is not your usual east meets west love affair.  It is a delightful romantic comedy set in today’s modern times that deals with the transition of cultures, and attitudes in marriages and families.

The film stars Akshaye Kumar as Arjun, a handsome Punjabi munda from the heart of Punjab.  He barely speaks English, but has a heart of gold.  Arjun is a simple, down to earth farmer, who is determined to win the heart of his love, Jasmeet.

Katrina Kaif, model turned Bollywood actress, plays the role of Jasmeet, or Jazz as she is commonly known.  Born and raised in England, she is determined to shed her Indian roots and marry her British boyfriend, Charlie Brown.  Jazz is your typical British brat; spoilt, rich and beautiful.

Two people from completely different worlds destined to meet.  Jazz’s conservative father, Manhoman decides that it is high time his daughter is married to a proper Punjabi boy and begins to learn the true meaning of culture, religion and family.

He takes her on a whirlwind adventure to India and arranges her marriage to Arjun.  The delighted Arjun cannot believe his good fortune – a beautiful wife and the chance to celebrate his honeymoon in England!

This ‘East meets West’ love affair will have you laughing, crying and hoping.

What happens when you transplant an English rose to countryside in Punjab and expect her to thrive in an alien environment?  The rose will either die or rebel – in Jazz’s case, rebellion is the only choice!

Namastey London is a delightful watch and if not for Akshaye Kumar’s acting and great comedic timing the film would have been a forgettable experience.

Katrina Kaif is no doubt a beautiful actress and her acting is certainly improving with each film she acts in, but in Namastey London I was a little confused about her accent – for a British born Indian her accent was very American!

I would recommend this film to all those who are either a Punjabi at heart or simply an Akshaye Kumar fan - Laugh, cry and join in the adventures of Namastey London!
