Manna Dey, the Living Legend |
The legendary Bollywood singer Manna Dey performed for the first time in Auckland on November 3 at the Dorothy Winstone Centre, Auckland Girls Grammar. At 85 years of age and with a delicate, frail frame, Manna Dey continues to bring the powerful magic of his songs to life even today.
The Dorothy Winstone Centre was full of people that were eager to witness the sensation that is Manna Dey. The multi-talented Manna Dey was welcomed on stage by the honourable Chris Carter amidst a thundering chorus of applause. |

To commence the evening, Arpita Chand performed a couple of numbers to set the mood of the performances to follow. Arpita, a talented and beautiful singer became the highlight of the evening when she had the fortunate opportunity to perform with the legendary Manna Dey himself on a few popular duets during the second half of the show.
To see Manna Dey live in concert is an experience not to be missed. He has a captivating stage presence and his ability to interact with the audience made the evening very enjoyable. Though he is 85 years of age he continues to sing with the power and devotion that have made him the success that he is today. |

Throughout the evening Manna Dey delighted the audience with his popular Bollywood hits and even sang a few Bengali numbers. His no-nonsense style of approach to the performance and his dry sense of humour kept the audience craving for more.
Manna Dey has said, “I am not a classical singer”, yet his dedication, his talent and his magic have set the foundation for classical music in Bollywood today. He has won numerous awards and accolades for his contribution and success in music. His magic is as much alive today as it was yesterday. |

To date this has been one of the best shows the IndianEvents team has had the opportunity to attend. I, myself love modern, popular Bollywood songs but after experiencing the sensation that is Manna Dey I must admit my tastes have evolved.
IndianEvents would like to thank Surabhi International’s Partha, Gopal and Pavitra who have given Auckland audiences the opportunity to see The Living Legend, Manna Dey live in concert. |
