Krishnan’s Dairy

Ever wondered what happens when the door’s of the corner dairy shop close? What is life like for the migrant couple that is there every morning when you come to buy your milk and waiting for the last customer to leave while the sun sets?

Krishnan’s Dairy is the story of Gobi and Zina Krishnan, along with their infant son, Abbu. They came to New Zealand with the hopes of educating their son and making enough money so that they could one day retire to their home country in luxury.

This is the dream of many migrants when they first come to a strange land with the hopes that all their dreams and wishes will be fulfilled. But life is not always what you dream it to be. There are many difficulties and many barriers to overcome.

Gobi and Zina met on their wedding day and together began a life of discovering each other and establishing a family for themselves. They arrived in New Zealand with their infant son carrying the same hopes and dreams that migrants before them had.

They quickly established a dairy shop, something very common amongst migrant Indians and began working hard to fulfill their desires. Gobi quickly adjusts to life in New Zealand, while his wife finds New Zealand cold and unwelcoming and dreams of life back in her home country of India.

Jacob Rajan is a world class actor who manages to capture the essence of each and every character that he enacts in Krishnan’s Dairy. His ability to quickly switch between the two roles, emotions and thoughts are amazing. His comic timing combined with his natural flair for people allows the audience to really connect with the characters of Gobi and Krishnan.

Running parallel to the story of Gobi and Zina is the age old story of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal – two people who knew the true meaning of love. The story of the Shah Jahan and Mumtaz is beautifully re-enacted by Jacob Rajan and will truly allow audiences to experience the sensual love that created the Taj Mahal.

Krishnan’s Dairy is a play that will keep audiences enthralled. The story is full of drama, comedy and good old Indian masala! Indian Ink Theatre is well known for their highly energetic and creative plays.

IndianEvents will keep you updated on the plays being performed by the Indian Ink Theatre.
