Just Married

The film stars Esha Deol and Fardeen Khan in the leading role of a couple whose lives are turned upside down by an arranged marriage.

Fardeen Khan, plays the role of Abhay Suchdeva, an overseas educated bachelor with a great job and a penchant for hanging out with his ‘mates’ and guzzling down beer.  Being the sensible and respectful child that he is, he agrees to an arranged marriage to a girl that he dances by at a wedding.
Esha Deol, plays the role of Ritika Khanna, an educated young woman of today, who does not believe in the idea of an arranged marriage, but ends up in an arranged marriage herself!

The film begins, where most films end – after the marriage.  Both Abhay’s and Ritika’s lives are turned upside down as they are forced to honeymoon in the beautiful location of Ooty, the day after the wedding.  What ensues is a touching and at times frustrating look at the developing relationship between the two.

Along the journey, we meet several characters, the most memorable is a couple married for 40 years, played by Satish Shah and Kirron Kher.  The two are a comedic watch and will have you laughing, cringing and contemplating – will we end up the same?

The best part of the movie would be the soundtrack.  My favourite is ‘Ram Milaye Jodi’, sung by the irrepressible Sukhwinder Singh, Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan will have you tapping your toes throughout the scene.

Overall, the film is an average watch – a time pass, really.  Meghna Gulzaar has tried to create cinematic magic, but fails to truly capture the audience.  The film flitters from one scene to the other and tries to be too many things to too many people – touch of comedy, drama and of course, the ‘lesson’.
