Dhol Film Review

Priyadarshan is known for his comic capers, but Dhol may have slightly missed the mark. Known for his typical brand of humour comprising of hilarious situations, slapstick comedy and chaos – Dhol continues the saga, but all good things do come to an end…sooner rather than later.

Dhol is the story of four friends who are your typical good-for-nothing, unemployed lads. They simply want to have the best time in life and dream of making it big in life with the shortest time and easiest route.

What is easier than working hard? Simple, marry a rich girl. Enter the gorgeous Tanushree Dutta. She’s a young, innocent girl who is determined to find out the reason behind her brother’s untimely death. Unbeknown to her, she becomes the focus of some unwanted attention.

Dhol is full of slapstick humour that will have you laughing until the cows come home. Certain scenes in the film, from the car, to the fire and right down to the poolside antics – Dhol will have you in stitches.

Even though there’s no Akshay Kumar, the film carries well mainly due to the camaraderie and chemistry between the four male leads – Tusshar, Kunal, Sharman and Rajpal. Tusshar has never been an idol of mine, but his performance is below average and executed with the support of the other male leads. Kunal is excellent – albeit the hair! Having only seen him in serious roles, it was a delight to see the versatility of this young Bollywood star. Sharman is average and Rajpal is known for his comedic prowess – no comments needed!

The ladies of the film do leave much to be desired. Tanushree’s acting feels slightly over the top and Payal is forgettable.

Dhol’s music is forgettable, although I did enjoy the title track – you’ll definitely be humming to this little number. On the whole, Dhol is a film that will simply make you laugh. Grab a popcorn and stroll on over to the cinema this Sunday. Dhol is the perfect way to pass an afternoon.
